The SAG Trust Score & Certification System

No black boxes. Below is the exact methodology our engineers use — the same recorded inspection data always reproduces the same score.

How the score is calculated

  1. 1. Inspectors score 26 items from 0–5. Zero means an observed failure; five means excellent. Unchecked and Unavailable are recorded separately and cannot produce a completed score or report. Legacy zero ratings are disclosed as potentially failed or missing, not silently reinterpreted.
  2. 2. Each category averages its items. For example, if the 5 engine items score 4, 4, 3, 5, 4 — the engine average is 4.0.
  3. 3. Averages convert to weighted points. Points = (average ÷ 5) × category weight. Engine weight is 22, so a 4.0 average earns 17.6 points.
  4. 4. Points sum to a score out of 100. The total is rounded to a whole number and published with the full category breakdown.
85–100Excellent
70–84Very Good
55–69Good
40–54Fair
0–39Needs Work
60+Certifiable*

* Certification also requires a passing inspection result — score alone is not enough.

SAG Certification rules

  • ◆ Only authorised SAG inspectors may issue or renew certification.
  • ◆ Certification requires a recorded inspection with result “pass” or “conditional” and a Trust Score of 60 or above.
  • ◆ Certification expires 90 days after issue. Expired certificates are never shown as current.
  • ◆ Every certificate links to its inspection record — fully auditable by the founder.
  • ◆ Uninspected vehicles are never described as inspected or certified, and never show a Trust Score.
  • ◆ Sold and reserved vehicles are labelled immediately and never presented as available stock.
